Army open day in St Albans

Today we are in St Albans.

It is an open day for the Army Air Corps.

They are off to Arizona for a couple of months before being deployed To Afghanistan and it is a day for the wives and girlfriends to have a get together and chill out for the afternoon.

The serving time is 12:30pm, so we set off at 4o’clock in the morning. Kelly and Natalie are assisting today and getting them up at this time of day is a struggle.

We got away at 4:15am and it was a really good run round the M25. We got there at 6:00am on the dot, and were greeted by an armed guard at the gates.

Tim the Staff Sergeant organising the event met us showed us where to set up.

We got the pig on at 6:30am and set up the tables and got everything ready.

Even on a beautiful day, at this time of the morning it is very cold and we put our feet up for an hour or so in the rest room of the hanger where the apache helicopters are held.

II was hoping to have a look around the fleet of helicopters but some were locked away in another hanger and the others had been flown somewhere else and because of the problem with volcanic dust, they could not be flown back to the base.
